The Drip Golf Tour concluded the DGT Cardinal Junior Open at The Cardinal by Pete Dye on July 14-15, with 84 junior golfers competing over two days under ideal summer conditions. Players enjoyed perfect weather with low humidity, while The Cardinal presented an outstanding championship test with exceptional course conditions throughout the tournament.
Camden Honeycutt of Salisbury, N.C. (Class of 2029) claimed the High School Boys championship after firing rounds of 71-67 on the par-70 layout to finish at 2-under-par 138. Honeycutt’s final-round 67 was the low round of the tournament and helped him secure a one-shot victory over Graham Weinstein of Midlothian, Va. (Class of 2027). Charlie Heinzelmann of Greensboro, N.C. (Class of 2029) finished alone in third place at 2-over-par 142.
Cooper Scheurich of Leesburg, Va. (Class of 2030) earned the Middle School Boys title with steady rounds of 71-72 to finish at 1-over-par 143, good for a three-shot victory. Connor Christensen of Charlotte, N.C. (Class of 2032) finished runner-up, while Landon Wilson of Winston-Salem, N.C. (Class of 2030) placed third.
Berck Phipps of Raleigh, N.C. (Class of 2030) turned in the most dominant performance of the championship, posting consecutive rounds of 67-67 to finish at 8-under-par 134. Phipps’ impressive eight-under total gave him a comfortable victory in the Future Stars division. Owen Kuzminski of Raleigh, N.C. (Class of 2033) finished second at 2-under-par 140, while Luke Walters of Winston-Salem, N.C. (Class of 2032) claimed third place at 2-over-par 144.
Drip Golf Tour extends its sincere appreciation to Director of Golf Chris Terry and the entire staff at The Cardinal by Pete Dye for hosting another outstanding championship. Special thanks also go to Course Superintendent Ross Jernigan and his maintenance team for presenting the golf course in exceptional condition, providing a true championship test for the competitors. The Drip Golf Tour also thanks McConnell Golf for its continued commitment to junior golf and for helping provide first-class tournament experiences for young golfers across the region.
